I think this should be Stevo's alternate if the bee costume doesn't work out.

I would shell out the $9.99 myself to see that.

Nothing can ever top the year that Stevo was Shakira. His ass looks great in girl jeans.

That's right, you heard it here first!
Or maybe not, depending on what kind of websites you frequent...

That was the same year that Corey and I were an angel and a demon, but we made up for the lackluster concept by making our costumes almost entirely out of thrift store lingerie. They were awesome!

So, I have totally committed to being Velma for Halloween, especially after just a few days ago, when a waitress said to me, "Has anyone ever told you that you look like that girl from Scooby Doo?"
For the record, no one has ever told me that. It's fate!
I have the turtleneck and a box of orange dye to improve the shade, and tomorrow I intend to march into American Apparel and see if I can stomach whatever they're asking for red pleated skirts and orange knee-socks.

POLL! Velma is depicted as wearing a red skirt, but it varies in shade. My personal recollection was way more in the brown-y range, but internet images suggest it was often cherry red. Which would be better for the costume?

Definitely the more browny red, and not cherry red.
I also think you'll get more distance out of a browny red skirt in terms of IRL use.

And the inset picture of a chick dressed up as Velma is hella lame. I think you should submit your own costume after Halloween and request they do it properly.

Well, the inset photo is a store-bought costume-in-a-bag, so of COURSE it sucks.

Also, no frigging way. EFF Linda Cardellini. That's not a turtleneck, and the skirt doesn't have the right pleats. The shoes are good, though.

Really, the only reason I'm tempted to go with cherry red is that the skirts are easier to find that way. American Apparel has them, and there's one just 10 blocks from my house...

The sweater that the actress has is way more like what the cartoon looks like.

Also, um, the seventies.

American Apparel seems an odd choice for the skirt; I'd check around for a wool/similarly heavy skirt before going with jersey knit.

That fuckin' costume I was gonna get is $50 damn bucks! What the Christ?! I'm gonna have to think of something fast.

I could go with my original plan and go as Dr. Forrester, or maybe even Roy Orbison.....

My costume is ready to go! I am so excited I could just spit. It has been a few years since I really put a lot of effort into a costume, and a few years more since I dressed as anything that your average Joe could recognize. (Turns out most people won't recognize when you dress up as Ajax from Sex & Violence, or Erin from Blue Monday. Go figure?)

Didn't your sister dress as a bee once? If that's still around you could probably modify it pretty easily.

In other news, I finally decided that I was done with the construction part of my helmet (I could probably have gone on sanding and spot-puttying indefinitely if I hadn't cut myself off) and just put on a coat of primer.

Because it's the PRIME TIME OF YOUR LIFE. :bot:

So we're not sure what we're doing now since the party we're going to has a theme of original star wars trilogy, and we want to go in a couple costume theme. My ideas are
1) me as Jabba and JB as Princess Leia
OR
2) JB as Boba Fett and me as carbonite encased Han Solo.

He just wants to go as Jawas because he's a spoilsport.

My costume is so close to done I can't believe it. Just needs to get a bit shinier and have some blinky bits added.
Also gloves.

I'm debating whether to take a picture of it now to show off or wait for full effect.

Just got back from a party and am a nerd and also still slightly wired so I'm posting about it on a forum.

Only one person recognized my costume, but everyone was duly impressed and I got to show it off and talk about the fact that I made it. Then I walked along Bloor Street for the bus with my helmet in hand and some guys called out, "hey! Daft Punk!" so I put it on for the rest of the walk (to much more recognition). The clubbing folks on Bloor know their shit.

I've got all my costume components except for a haircut, a pair of contact lenses and some kind of teeth effect. And my shirt needs to be taken in.

I can't decide whether to get black tooth paint, or these things.

Blazer + updo + hockey mask + lipstick.

I was gonna do Nurse Joker, but he'll still be relevant next year and this idea is twice as scary. :P

Oh man, I forgot to include the strawberry in the photo! Yes, I totally bought a fake plastic strawberry to carry around as a prop. DETAILS.

Tragically, I have yet to find excellent Halloween plans! My favorite venue usually has a show, but they're doing some kind of wedding reception/show that night, so wtf.

Leslie seems to want me to have a Hallowe'en wedding. Or just a masqerade wedding, but that might be hard to pull off sans Hallowe'en.

I FINALLY ordered my contact lenses, and dude from 9mm assures me I will have them on time. And I found a pretty perfect belt buckle to complement the outfit.
I'm also thinking I should do a "<a href = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NOeDPrJPao>Dirty Harry</a>" version of 2D, with army gear. Since I'm planning to dress up more than once. Just need a helmet, really. Maybe a canteen if I want to be extra awesome. Be cool to have one, anyway.
